Sexual Medicine/Sex Therapy
At IGO, Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz brings discreet, respectful care to men and women just like you. Because he understands how difficult it can be to approach a physician with a physical or emotional problem that is affecting your sexual health, he is dedicated to helping you find a cause in an environment that's centered around you.
What is unique about Innovative Gynecology & Obstetrics? Unlike many other practices in the area. Dr. Schwartz is a Sexual Medicine physician and a Florida Certified Sex Therapist. This combination means that all medical and therapy services are in-house, without the need for outside referrals. This model of care supports better outcomes by addressing the multi-dimensional aspects of sexual dysfunction at the same time.
In case you didn't know, sexual dysfunction isn't always just a physical problem. There are many other factors that can influence the health of your sex life and sexual organs, including biological influences and emotional triggers. To help you be your best, Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz is dedicated to providing patients with holistic approaches as he explores the underlying causes of your sexual problems and treats them with the best advanced approaches possible.
What to Expect
At IGO, we know how difficult it is to address your most intimate concerns. That’s why Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz has created a warm, comforting, patient-centered environment. We realize the first visit is undoubtedly the most intimidating for most patients, but we will set your mind at ease.
We encourage you to bring your partner or spouse to your appointment. Couples are a big part of our practice, and partners or spouses are always welcome. Dr. Schwartz will spend the majority of the time gathering information from you that includes not only your medical history and family history but also a biopsychosocial assessment that explores your emotional and environmental health.
At the end of your initial visit, Dr. Schwartz will provide you with a laboratory request form and instructions on how to have your blood work and hormonal profiles taken. The results will be sent to Dr. Schwartz before your second visit. He will also provide you with more specific in-depth sexual health questionnaires to complete before returning to the office again.
Sexual Dysfunction Conditions
It's common for patients with sexual health problems to be intimidated when it's time to seek medical care. Unsure about what's really wrong, many patients broach the subject with their family doctor, gynecologist, or urologist and may or may not get an answer that helps. At IGO, we approach sexual health problems from a holistic perspective and take a look at not only physical problems but emotional or social influences that may be affecting your sexual relationships.
Your care is important to us, and we are proud to treat a variety of sexual dysfunction conditions for men and women, including:
- Sexual arousal disorders
- Desire disorders
- Orgasmic disorders
- Sexual pain disorders
- Physical disorders and neurovascular problems
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature ejaculation
Diagnostic Testing
For some sexual health conditions, a physical exam and diagnostic testing can provide valuable information and expand your understanding. At IGO, we are proud to provide our patients with advanced diagnostics to round out their care.
- Pelvic Floor Muscle Evaluation
- Pelvic / Genital Ultrasound
- Lab Work & Hormonal Profiles
- Biopsychosocial Assessment
- Biothesiometry
Your pelvic floor muscles are the same ones you use to stop and start your urine stream. These muscles are responsible for controlling bowel and bladder function, stabilizing the spine and pelvis, and responding during an orgasm to make sex more fulfilling. If these muscles are weak or not responding as they should, both normal body functions and sex life can be affected. You will work with a trained physical therapist, certified in pelvic floor dysfunction, to identify muscle spasms, trigger points, organ prolapse, position problems, or decreased tone, then suggest treatments for any problems.
Ultrasound generates painless sound waves that travel through the body's tissues to produce images of the body on a computer screen - in this case, images of the pelvic area and genitals. These images can help Schwartz identify structural problems, cysts, masses, and much more that may be interfering with your sex health.
Hormones and abnormalities in your body's chemical messengers can be responsible for low sex drive, difficulty achieving orgasm, and sexual function problems for both men and women. Blood work that includes an assessment of your hormones is a key part of your care and can help guide treatment.
Many patients don't know that your sexual response can be greatly influenced by the health of your blood vessels, nerves, and brain and their connection to each other. If needed, a complete neurovascular assessment can help identify problems that may influence erections. Sexual arousal, or sensation. Blood is one part of this assessment, and Dr. Schwartz may use ultrasound or Doppler technology to diagnose decreased blood flow. For patients with decreased sexual sensation, ask our doctor about biothesiometer testing that measures genital sensitivity. For patients with genital pain or pain during sex, Genital Mapping provides detailed information about what might be causing the pain and treatment options available.
All of these tests can bring to light any underlying physical problems and help guide Dr. Schwartz's s
recommended treatment. If you are ready to find answers and improve your sexual Health, call our Lakeland, Florida office at (863) 619-9800 or request your appointment online.

As the key component of care in our practice, we integrate medical treatments with sex therapy. The elements of sexual dysfunction can be effectively treated through the use of prescription medications such as nutraceuticals (herbal supplements). Our holistic approach to sexual health means treating the body, and we are proud to bring all three together for your ideal sexual health.
The muscles of the pelvic floor can become weak over time, diminishing the strength of your sexual response. Physical therapy techniques can help patients build strength in these muscles again, boosting their satisfaction and enhancing their sexual response.
We offer traditional HRT {hormone replacement therapy), as well as compounded bioidentical HRT, to optimize one's sexual response. Treatment options available include gels, creams, patches, as well as implantable testosterone pellets. Used for both men and women, these implanted testosterone pellets will dissolve slowly, delivering a sustained-release hormone that boosts both sex drive and energy.
This technique helps patients improve their health by controlling certain bodily processes that typically happen involuntarily, such as heart rate, muscle tension, and skin temperature. During biofeedback treatment, electrodes attached to your skin measure the body's physical response and displays them on a monitor. With help from Dr. Schwartz and a pelvic floor physical therapist, you can learn to change the way your body responds to certain stimuli, such as tension and pain.
